The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has reaffirmed her commitment to improving the welfare and economic well-being of police families through a two-day outreach to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory.

The outreach, held ahead of the 2026 POWA National Convention scheduled for 16–18 July, featured unannounced visits to the markets at Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje. Accompanied by members of the POWA management team, Disu interacted directly with women traders, widows, and spouses of serving police officers, observing that many shops were poorly stocked due to financial constraints. Moved by their stories, she immediately distributed cash support, business grants, food items, and starter packs to selected beneficiaries to help restock their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

She noted that the intervention is part of the POWA CARES Initiative, which promotes healthcare, welfare, and economic empowerment for police families in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. She added that the outreach reflects the vision of the upcoming convention, themed “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” with a focus on healthcare and mental wellness, economic empowerment, and stronger support systems for police families nationwide.

Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely and life-changing. Abigail John expressed gratitude after receiving support to revive her business, while Rebecca Atahiru, a widow who lost her husband in active service 15 years ago, said the gesture renewed her hope. Grace Ameh, an egg trader and wife of a police inspector, also commended the initiative and encouraged other police officers’ wives to participate actively in POWA programmes.
