Former Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims that he joined the 2027 presidential race to negotiate for a vice-presidential slot.
Amaechi said he purchased the ADC presidential form because he believes he has the capacity and experience to lead Nigeria.
Speaking during a media interview in Abuja, the former Minister of Transportation also dismissed speculations about consensus talks within the party, saying all aspirants were preparing for the primary election.
“Please stop that. I did not buy form to be vice president,” Amaechi said.
He argued that Nigeria’s current economic and governance challenges require experienced and energetic leadership.
Amaechi said his experience as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and Minister of Transportation had prepared him for national leadership.
He also said the ADC remains a strong opposition platform, adding that the attention being paid to the party by the government shows its growing relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ADC presidential aspirants, including Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, are expected to face screening on Wednesday.
