to serving only one term if elected president in 2027, insisting

Speaking during a recent interview, Obi said his decision is based on the need for political stability, equity, and national unity. According to him, he has no intention of extending his stay in office beyond a single term even if given the opportunity.

“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day longer than four years,” Obi stated during the interview.

His position comes amid ongoing political discussions surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term before power returns to the North in 2031. Senator Victor Umeh, a key ally of Obi, also stated that the former Anambra governor would honour the agreement if elected.

The development has continued to generate mixed reactions across Nigeria’s political space, with supporters praising Obi’s stance while critics question whether such a promise can be fully guaranteed under Nigeria’s constitutional system.
