A group, Arewa Youth Assembly, has raised the alarm over what it termed “existential threat” to Nigeria’s democracy, especially as it concerns the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group, citing the recent purported removal of chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma, in a move towards achieving the plan, accused those behind the plot of having a ready and willing hand in Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun.

At a media briefing in Abuja Sunday by publicity secretary of the group, Aliyu Mohammed, the group called on the Ogun state House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Abiodun.

“We know what would happen should we experience a situation where power will return to the North in 2027 as against the orderly rotation agreement which means that the South will complete its tenure by 2031.

“Now, some people, unfortunately from the South, have devised a devious plan not only to destabilise the polity but to truncate the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Because they could not break and manipulate Governor Uzodimma of Imo state, they went for a soft target in the person of Governor Abiodun of Ogun state, to set in motion a machinery to stop the reelection of Tinubu,” it said
