Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a massive ISWAP terrorist attack on Buni Gari in Yobe State, killing over 50 insurgents during a fierce overnight battle.
The attack targeted the Headquarters of 27 Brigade and the Buni Gari checkpoint in the early hours of Thursday, as terrorists launched coordinated assaults from multiple directions under the cover of darkness. However, Nigerian troops mounted strong resistance, engaging the attackers with heavy firepower and tactical counter-operations that crushed the assault.
According to military authorities, troops maintained full control of the camp throughout the operation, preventing any breach despite repeated attempts by the terrorists to surround the location from different flanks.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also played a crucial role in the operation by providing Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) support, while fighter aircraft carried out precision airstrikes on fleeing insurgents along their escape routes.
Security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition from the terrorists, including AK-47 rifles, Rocket-Propelled Grenade launchers, General Purpose Machine Guns, explosives, loaded magazines, and ammunition belts.
Military sources confirmed that troops and volunteer forces are currently conducting aggressive clearance operations in surrounding areas to track fleeing terrorists and prevent regrouping efforts.
Sadly, two soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation, while injured personnel are receiving treatment and are reported to be stable.
The successful operation is being seen as another major blow against terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-East region, as troops continue sustained offensives against insurgent groups operating within the theatre of Operation HADIN KAI.
