Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an early morning attack by ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Magumeri in Sector 3 on 7 May 2026.
The terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base under poor visibility conditions, managing only minor breaches on a section of the camp. However, they were swiftly and decisively engaged by Nigerian troops, who overpowered the attackers and neutralised scores of them during the fierce encounter.
Following the failed assault, further clearance and exploitation of the general area revealed heavy evidence of terrorist casualties, including blood trails, dragged bodies, and abandoned corpses—confirming the significant losses suffered by the attackers.
Troops also recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including PKT anti-aircraft machine guns, AK-47 rifles, and several magazines, as terrorists fled the scene in disarray.
Sadly, two gallant soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation, while one officer and other injured personnel are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition. Some equipment and temporary structures within the base were also damaged by fire during the intense exchange.
Military authorities confirmed that ongoing exploitation operations are still underway in the area to consolidate gains and assess the full extent of the damage inflicted on the terrorist group. The High Command has praised the troops for their bravery, resilience, and professionalism, urging them to maintain operational momentum in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the theatre.
