During an interview on Channels Television, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary to Kabir Tanimu Turaki, spoke on the leadership situation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi said the party’s Board of Trustees intervened as what he described as the conscience of the party by putting in place an interim leadership arrangement pending further constitutional processes.
He explained that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was convened in line with constitutional provisions, leading to the emergence of Turaki as the interim leader of the PDP.
He argued that control of the party’s structures and accounts reflects the legitimacy of the current leadership arrangement, while also criticizing statements made by opposing figures within the party.
According to him, “The BoT stepped in as the conscience of the party and provided an interim leadership that led to the summoning of NEC in line with our constitution section 31(2). After following a two-thirds majority and a quorum being formed, it provided an interim leadership in Kabir Tanimu Turaki, whom we are having today as the leadership of the PDP.
“Forget people who speak after being influenced by substance. Let him go and say… Who is in control of the account of the PDP? If he tells you that he’s warning private financial institutions, it’s like he’s intimidating media organizations, which you have seen yesterday.”
