Tension erupted at the Federal High Court as protesters gathered to oppose moves seeking the deregistration of some opposition political parties.
The protest followed a legal action reportedly backed by the Attorney General of the Federation, which is asking the court to deregister certain parties over alleged non-compliance with constitutional requirements.
Among parties reportedly affected is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other opposition platforms.
Protesters, including party members and supporters, expressed concerns that such moves could undermine Nigeria’s democratic space and limit political participation.
Security operatives were deployed around the court premises to maintain order as proceedings continued.
The case is expected to test legal interpretations surrounding party registration and electoral regulations in Nigeria.
