Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has revealed that he declined an invitation to attend an opposition summit held in Ibadan, describing the gathering as a platform for “recycled political actors.”

Sowore stated that there is no justification for aligning with individuals he accused of previously presiding over years of stagnation, corruption, and systemic decline in Nigeria. He argued that such figures cannot suddenly reposition themselves as agents of change.

He emphasised that his party, the African Action Congress (AAC), will not participate in what he described as a political “charade” aimed at repackaging failed leadership under the guise of opposition politics.

According to him, the AAC remains committed to building a credible, people-driven alternative focused on integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation.

Sowore also criticised major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of representing entrenched political interests rather than real change.

He concluded that Nigeria needs a complete departure from past political structures, not a rebranding of the same system.
