Troops of the Nigerian Army under the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully foiled terrorists’ attacks by reclaiming Ngoshe in the early hours of Thursday in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Ngoshe, a border community with Cameroon, was attacked with the abduction of more than 100 residents, mainly comprising women and children, on February 24, 2026.
OPHK Media Information Officer, Lt-Col. Sani Uba, on Friday, in a statement in Maiduguri, disclosed: “Yesterday’s recapture of the community led the troops to control their defensive positions, after a swift counter-offensive against the insurgents.
The terrorists had earlier attacked the location that was occupied by troops of OPHK on March 3, 2026.
Regarding the recapture of the border community, Uba noted that the reinforcement teams from the Forward Operating Base, Pulka and 151 Battalion were immediately mobilised to reinforce and reclaim the strategic Army base in the council areas.
Sani stated: “During the reinforcement operation, the leading Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which damaged two tyres, but undeterred, troops continued to advance to the location.
“A special reinforcement team led by the Commander 26 Task Force Brigade, Gwoza, under Sector 1 of OPHK, Brig-Gen. Nasirudeen Abdullahi, subsequently arrived at the scene, coordinated a counter-attack and successfully thwarted terrorists, forcing them to withdraw from the recaptured community.”
During the pursuit and exchange of fire, the troops also recovered three AK-47 rifles and a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) barrel from the fleeing terrorists.
Equally, the Air Component of OPHK rendered heavy air support to the operation and neutralised scores of the terrorists.
He said, following the successful reoccupation of the location and subsequent exploitation of the area, Brigadier General Abdullahi addressed the troops, commending their gallantry and resilience while urging them to maintain aggressive operations in the area to further weaken terrorist forces operating within the border communities, including Pulka, Kirawa, and Bokko.

Troops of OPHK remain resolute in their determination to deny terrorists freedom of action and will continue to carry out aggressive operations to ensure lasting peace, security, and economic stability across the North East.
Uba added: “Our troops’ morale remains high and operations are ongoing.”
The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience while urging them to sustain the operational tempo.
