The Federal Government of Nigeria will on March 27, 2026 launch the National Single Window (NSW) for Trade and Port Operations, a major digital reform designed to modernize the country’s trade environment and improve the efficiency of cargo clearance at the nation’s ports.

The initiative introduces a centralized electronic platform that will integrate all government agencies involved in import and export procedures into a single portal, enabling traders to submit documentation once for processing by all relevant regulatory bodies. The reform is expected to streamline trade processes, reduce bureaucratic delays, and enhance transparency in port and border operations.
Under the National Single Window system, importers and exporters will be able to submit trade-related information through one unified interface, after which the data will be automatically shared with participating government agencies responsible for approvals and regulatory oversight. Officials say the system will significantly reduce duplication of documentation and improve coordination among agencies involved in Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.

As part of preparations for the rollout, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the initiative and strengthening regulatory efficiency through digital integration.
NAFDAC, which is responsible for regulating and controlling food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and packaged water in Nigeria, said it has played a key role in the development and operational readiness of the National Single Window system.

Over the years, the agency has invested in the digitization of several regulatory processes, including electronic platforms for product registration, permits, inspections, and import and export clearances. These efforts, according to the agency, have created a strong foundation for its seamless integration into the National Single Window framework.

In preparation for the system’s launch, NAFDAC said it has aligned its digital platforms with the infrastructure of the National Single Window to ensure interoperability and smooth data exchange between participating agencies.

The agency also disclosed that it is reviewing and updating its operational guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures to reflect the changes expected under the new digital trade environment. In addition, NAFDAC has intensified collaboration with other government institutions involved in trade facilitation, border management, and regulatory oversight.

Officials added that capacity-building programmes and sensitization sessions are being conducted for staff to ensure they are fully equipped to operate the new platform effectively.

NAFDAC also noted that regulatory documentation and guidelines available on its official website are being updated to reflect the agency’s integration with the National Single Window portal.

According to the agency, the reforms will help improve regulatory transparency, reduce duplication in trade processes, minimize delays in cargo clearance, and support Nigeria’s efforts to enhance the ease of doing business.

The Director-General of NAFDAC reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies and collaborative governance to strengthen regulatory oversight while facilitating legitimate trade.
Management of the agency described the National Single Window as a transformative step in Nigeria’s trade modernization agenda and emphasized that NAFDAC remains committed to ensuring that its regulatory processes remain efficient, transparent, and aligned with global best practices.
The agency has therefore encouraged importers, exporters, manufacturers, and other stakeholders involved in the trade of regulated products to familiarize themselves with the new platform and comply with updated regulatory procedures that will accompany its implementation.
NAFDAC reiterated that while the agency remains focused on protecting public health through effective regulation, it is equally committed to supporting national economic growth through efficient, technology-driven regulatory system.
