Former Imo Chief of Staff and frontline politician Uche Nwosu has praised President Bola Tinubu for a groundbreaking directive ordering the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to remit all oil and gas revenues directly into the Federation Account before any spending.
Speaking in Abuja, Nwosu described the move as a landmark fiscal reform that will bring transparency, accountability, and public confidence to Nigeria’s oil sector.
“For years, Nigerians have demanded clarity in how petroleum revenues are managed. This decision finally allows proper scrutiny and institutional oversight,” he said.
He emphasised that the directive would curb financial excesses and address lingering concerns over how oil revenues are collected, managed, and remitted.
“This shows that President Tinubu is committed to doing things differently. He is demonstrating bold, reform-oriented leadership with a decisive and forward-looking step,” Nwosu added.
According to Nwosu, effective implementation of the directive will not only strengthen institutions and promote fiscal discipline but also enhance macroeconomic planning, improve revenue projections, and foster fiscal harmony among federal, state, and local governments.
He also urged the government to maintain momentum in pursuing transparency-driven reforms across other critical sectors of the economy. “Nigeria will benefit greatly from such accountable leadership,” he said, noting that citizens and investors alike will gain confidence from the clear signal of reform.
The NNPC revenue directive is widely seen as a major step toward ensuring that national oil wealth is fully accounted for and used responsibly, aligning Nigeria’s fiscal practices with international standards and promoting sustainable economic growth.
