Six members of the Zamfara state house of assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their defection in separate letters, citing alleged disregard for constitutional provisions and poor management of the legislative arm as key reasons.
I write to formally inform the Honourable Speaker and Honourable Members of this Honourable House my decision of defection from People Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) due to lingering and unresolved crises of my party (PDP) which resulted to factional leadership,” the letters read.
Therefore, my decision is consonant and pursuant to Section (l) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigerian 2011 (as amended), and poor leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal ranging from negligence in the security of the state and unfulfilled promises made as his campaign manifestos.
I therefore found it expedient to make this decision voluntarily.”
The defecting lawmakers are Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura north), Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru north), Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe west), Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi 1 constituency), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum north) and Bashir Bello (Bungudu west).
The lawmakers expressed hope that joining the APC would promote justice, fair play, harmony, and inclusiveness, allowing them to better serve their constituents and contribute to the state’s development.
