Daredevil armed robbers killed ARISE News TV Broadcaster, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, and others in the Katampe area of Abuja yesterday.The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, and is now under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.
Although details of the incident were sketchy at press time, an eyewitness said it occurred in the block where he lives. The witness, who expressed his sadness on social media, said he was the first victim to be attacked during the incident.
“I don’t wish anyone to witness the things I saw. When I’m ready, I’ll share details. For now may the souls of the departed find peace.”
Meanwhile, the management and staff of ARISE News Channel have announced the untimely death of Maduagwu, describing her as one of their brightest talents, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie, at just 29 years old, had already established herself as a dynamic news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News. Known for her professionalism and captivating on-screen presence, she was a rising star in Nigerian journalism whose voice connected deeply with audiences across the country.
Her legacy as both a journalist and lawyer will be remembered as one that blended intellect, courage, and humanity.
