President Tinubu Condemns Violence in Rivers State, Orders Police to Secure Local Government Offices

President Bola Tinubu has voiced strong disapproval over the recent violence in Rivers State, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other political leaders to promote peace and adhere to the rule of law. Following Saturday’s local government council election, tensions have escalated in the region, with reports of arson and explosions causing widespread concern.

President Tinubu called on all political figures and their supporters to refrain from violence and destructive actions, emphasizing the importance of de-escalating the situation. In a decisive move to restore order, he has directed the police to take immediate action to maintain peace and uphold law and order across the state.

The President also highlighted the need for law enforcement agencies to safeguard public institutions, stressing that government facilities—built with taxpayer funds—must be protected from vandalism. He underscored the importance of respecting democratic processes, stating that resorting to self-help is unacceptable, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy in Nigeria.

As tensions persist, President Tinubu reaffirmed that the judiciary is the appropriate avenue for resolving political disputes and insisted that the outcome of the recent election should follow this standard.
