The forum of Jimeta PDP Critical Stakeholders held an emergency meeting on Monday, May 8th, 2023 at the office complex of Hamab Motors, along Atiku Abubakar Road, Jimeta
The forum reviewed the 2023 election cycle and why the PDP lost Jimeta during the Governorship and State Assembly elections.
After intensive deliberation and critical assessment of events that took place before and during the February 25th presidential election and the governorship election on March 18th and April 15th, 2023, the forum observed that the PDP overwhelmingly won Yola North LGA during the presidential election, but performed woefully during the governorship election.
The forum observed that one of the main reasons why the PDP lost Yola North, LGA was not because Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has not brought development to the community, Governor Fintiri has done his best to Jimeta in the area of infrastructure, youth employment, and respect for our elders and leaders, including the position of commissioner of local government and chieftaincy affairs, board appointments and the all-important SSG position
The main reason the PDP lost Jimeta is – Mallam Bashir Ahmad, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He has become an impediment between the Fintiri Government and the Jimeta. Prior to the Governorship election, he openly and with pride told anyone that want to hear, that all the Jimeta-community critical stakeholders are not important, he will retire them from politics and that he will deliver Jimeta without any of them. So, the stakeholders resolved that, since they have done their best and delivered Jimeta to PDP and Atiku Abubakar in the presidential election, it’s good now they allow Bashir to also show his political strength and try his luck in Jimeta. Bashir didn’t only lose the entire local government council to the APC, but he lost his ward and polling unit. He lost both in Ajiya ward and Bekaji despite the infrastructural development brought to the areas by Governor Fintiri.
Bashir was also involved in massive anti-party activities during the election. He actively worked against the PDP by secretly supporting the Labour Party (LP) during the presidential election, while during the Governorship and state assembly elections, he worked against Hamidu Lekki; he financially supported the SDP candidate, which resulted in the APC to gain an undue advantage
The Jimeta PDP Critical Stakeholder has unanimously resolved to dismiss Bashir Ahmad from its fold, though the forum initially didn’t consider him as one of its bonafide members- because of the controversy surrounding his indigeneship of Jimeta and Adamawa state as a whole. Bashir doesn’t have a biological father’s house in any part of Jimeta, as other indigenes of Jimeta do.
To reorganize its activities to face future challenges, the Forum has also resolved to replace its Chairman – Kawu Wandala, with Bala HammanJoda, who will serve as the Acting Chairman.
The Forum congratulates Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri for the well-deserved victory at the polls, the forum calls on the governor; if he decides to honour Jimeta with the position of the SSG again, Bashir Ahmad shouldn’t be considered. If people like Bashir find their way into the government, the Jimeta PDP Critical Stakeholders will continue to disassociate themselves from such people.
Governor Fintiri needs bridged-builders, not people like Bashir who is always in disagreement with everybody, disrespectful, and has a poor human relationship with almost everybody in Jimeta.
Signed:
