‘Winning first AFCON match sets tone for success’

The Super Eagles have been urged to win their first game of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea to set the tone for a successful campaign. Nigeria will meet Equatorial Guinea in their opening match of the competition holding in Cote d’Ivoire today.

And to ensure they achieve their aim of a fourth Africa Cup of Nations crown, Marketing Strategy and Public Relations Manager of StarTimes, the official broadcast rights partner for the competition, Lazarus Ibeabuchi, said the team must secure victory in the opening match, which will kick off at 3.00 p.m.

“The first match is always crucial. It sets the tone for the entire tournament and ignites the passion of the fans. We believe in the Super Eagles, and we’re calling on all Nigerians to unite and cheer them on to victory,” Ibeabuchi said.

Ibeabuchi, who has promised Nigerians an exciting experience watching the championship from the comfort of their homes, disclosed that the broadcast company has teamed up with fintech platform, PalmPay, an ‘AFCON Football Fiesta’ campaign running throughout the competition.

He said: “From January 13 to February 11, 2024, one lucky StarTimes customer, who uses the PalmPay app to subscribe, will stand a chance to win a free one-month subscription every day. Additionally, numerous coupons are up for grabs for other customers who renew their subscriptions through the PalmPay app.”

Ibeabuchi noted: “For us, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is not just a football tournament; it’s a celebration of unity, diversity, and the spirit of Naija. We eagerly anticipate the success of Super Eagles and look forward to rewarding our subscribers with fantastic prizes.

“As we celebrate the magic of AFCON 2023, let’s come together to embrace the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and the shared love for the beautiful game, players and teams.”

Also speaking on the campaign, Senior Marketing Manager, PalmPay, Kevin Olumese, said: “To delight our customers all through the tournament, we have decided to reward a lucky customer with a one-month subscription every day of the campaign and reward many customers with loads of coupons by purchasing their StarTimes subscription in the PalmPay App.”
