A Bauchi based Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdulaziz Dutsen Tanshi, has described the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, as a disgrace to the people of Bauchi State for illegally declaring Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Adamawa governorship election.
The cleric, in viral video on social media, was reacting to the Yunusa-Ari’s illegal action on Sunday, which led to the initial suspension of collation of the election results.
Dr. Abdulaziz recalled how he cautioned the suspended REC against misdemeanor upon his appointment as REC in 2022.
“Hudu, you disgraced us. It showed that you don’t know what you’re doing and you ignored my words of caution,” the cleric said in the video.
The cleric expressed sadness and frustration over the incident, saying that the disgraced REC “demeaned the good people of Bauchi as well as his own local government, Ningi.
“When he was nominated as REC-designate, he approached me where I told him that I won’t congratulate him; rather, I’d counsel him that he should fear Allah and be honest.”
