The Nigerian Embassy in Doha has alerted citizens in Qatar to heightened risks as fresh strikes between Israel and Iran fuel tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement released late Saturday, the mission said the advisory was necessary “in view of the evolving security situation in the region,” urging Nigerians in Qatar to register their presence and strictly follow safety directives from Qatari authorities.
Nigerians were asked to send their full name, contact address in Qatar, mobile number and copies of their international passport and/or Qatar Identification (QID) card to nigerianembassy.doha@gmail.com to help the embassy keep track of their whereabouts.
Citizens were also advised to take all precautionary measures as directed by host authorities and to rely only on official channels for updates. “The Embassy is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as and when necessary,” the statement added.
The advisory follows renewed military activity in the Middle East after joint US and Israeli strikes on multiple Iranian cities early Saturday, described by Israeli authorities as a pre‑emptive move aimed at degrading Iran’s offensive capabilities. Iran responded with drone and missile launches towards Israeli territory.
In the wake of the escalation, countries in the region have taken precautions. The United Arab Emirates closed parts of its airspace, prompting flight disruptions and increased security across major airports a sign of how volatile the situation has become for foreign residents and travellers.
The embassy’s alert underscores the importance of vigilance, with Nigerians urged to stay in regular communication with the mission, avoid unnecessary travel and follow local safety instructions until the situation stabilises.
Nigeria’s advisory aligns with broader federal guidance urging Nigerians in Gulf states and Iran to be cautious, restrict movement and obey local directives amid the escalating conflict.
