Nigeria ready for female president – Uchegbu

A female presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ada Kate Uchegbu, has said Nigeria is ripe to have a female president as Nigerians prepare for the 2027 general elections.
In an interview with journalists, she stated that the country needs a female president who would come with fresh ideas for the betterment of the nation.

Uchegbu, an erudite author and a media executive, noted that the country is blessed with abundant human and material resources. She added that the way the country has been recycling leaders has not made things work out well in the nation. The situation, she said, has made Nigeria to be at a breaking point.

Her words: “This challenge of women in governance is not about competence. African women are among the most capable leaders on earth; it’s the structural bias in our political systems.

“We need political parties to actively support female candidates, not just parade them for diversity optics.

“The day Nigeria elects a woman president, the continent’s political culture will change forever. My background in journalism, business, and activism equips me to deliver a transparent and people-first government. This isn’t about politics as usual; it’s about resetting the system.

“Storytelling teaches you to listen and leadership begins with listening. As a journalist, I’ve sat with market women, security experts, and world leaders. I’ve seen how policies affect people’s daily lives.

“Writing political thrillers and investigative pieces has also sharpened my sense of accountability because when you write the truth, you can’t hide from it yourself.” On the forthcoming governorship poll in Anambra State, Uchegbu enjoined eligible voters in the state to vote for competence, not cash or political godfathers.

“This election is a chance to set the tone for credible governance nationwide. INEC must guarantee transparency, protect voters from intimidation and choose leaders who can build, not those who only campaign.” On insecurity, she advised that security must be depoliticised if insecurity would reduce in the country.
