Navy repels B’Haram/ISWAP attack on Lake Chad naval base

The Nigerian Navy has successfully thwarted a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on the naval base in Lake Chad, Borno State.

The assault, which began around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, targeted newly acquired swamp buggies procured by the Borno State Government for waterways clearance in the Lake Chad Basin, alongside other military assets stationed at the base. Navy personnel at the base, reinforced by land and air units from Operation Hadin Kai, mounted a response, effectively neutralising the insurgents. The coordinated counterattack demonstrated superior tactical planning and firepower, leaving the terrorists with significant losses.

Military sources confirmed that no assets were lost during the confrontation, and clearance operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to prevent further attempts by insurgents.
