Meta Introduces Generative AI Video Editing Feature Across Meta AI App, Edits

Meta has officially launched a generative AI-powered video editing feature, making it easier for users to transform short-form videos using preset creative prompts. The new tool is now available across the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website, and Edits app.

The feature allows users to apply dynamic, imaginative transformations to their videos, altering outfits, locations, lighting, and styles, with no prior editing experience required. Using more than 50 pre-built AI prompts, users can edit up to 10 seconds of video for free for a limited time. The resulting videos can be directly shared to Facebook, Instagram, or the Discover feed on Meta platforms.

Meta, in a statement, said the new features are about unlocking creativity for everyone.

“Whether you’re reimagining a family memory or building content for your audience, our new AI editing tool is designed to help bring your ideas to life effortlessly,” Meta added. The rollout marks a significant step in Meta’s AI journey, leveraging years of research and development. The feature draws inspiration from Meta’s Movie Gen models and builds on technologies like Make-A-Scene and the Llama image foundation models. With these innovations, Meta has combined multiple AI modalities, including image, audio, and video generation, into one intuitive tool.

Examples of the feature’s capabilities include transforming a rainy video into a dreamy, soft-lit sequence, or reimagining yourself as a character from a vintage comic book or an action-packed video game. Meta worked closely with creators to ensure the available prompts resonate with audiences, while also streamlining the editing process within the Edits app.

Looking ahead, Meta plans to expand the feature later this year by allowing users to edit videos using custom text prompts, offering more creative control and flexibility. The current launch is part of Meta’s broader commitment to advancing AI-powered content creation across its ecosystem.

With the integration across its platforms and apps, Meta is aiming to make high-quality video editing as accessible as snapping a photo or writing a caption. The feature is now ‘live’ in the U.S. and more than a dozen other countries.

“This is just the beginning. We’re excited to see how people use AI to create, connect, and express themselves in entirely new ways,” the company added.
