Muslim women in Osun State have lamented victimisation for wearing hijab in the public despite the pronouncement of the Apex Court on the right of Muslim women to wear it.

Speaking at a press conference in commemoration of World Hijab Day 2025, in Osogbo, at the weekend, President, Organisation Of Muslim Women, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo, called on the state government to protect the rights of Muslim women from harassment and intimidation in public places.

She appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to respect, abide by and ensure full implementation of the judgement of Supreme Court that guarantees usage of Hijab.

The Secretary of the organisation, Alhaja Medinat Opejin, Assistant Secretary, Alhaja Monsurot Muhammadul-Awal, the Treasurer, Dr Mulikat Hassan, and the former Ameerah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Suibat Babalola Adubi also called on the state government to end discrimination and harassment of Muslim women wearing hijab.

A lawyer, Shakirat Asafa Olaore, warned against violation of court order on Hijab, noting that there is stringent punishment against violators.

The theme for World Hijab Day 2025, “Hijabis Unsilenced,” highlights the strength and resilience of women who wear the hijab, and calls for their voices to be heard.
