Gunmen kill vigilante, kidnap family in Katsina

Some suspected gunmen attacked a residence in Filin Canada Quarters, Katsina State, early Tuesday, killing a vigilante and abducting a man, his wife, and their daughter.

This was disclosed in a statement released o Tuesday by Katsina Police Command spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu.

He said the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. at the home of 33-year-old Anas Ahmadu, adding that the attackers also fatally shot 25-year-old Abdullahi Muhammad, a member of the local vigilante, before fleeing the scene.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO quickly rushed to the scene, restoring normalcy in the area as investigation commenced with a view to tracking and arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” Aliyu said. The Katsina Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, visited the scene alongside the command management team, Area Commander Metro, DPOs within the metro, and the OC Anti-Kidnapping for an on-the-spot assessment.

Aliyu stated additional personnel and assets were deployed to ensure the prompt rescue of the victims and arrest of the suspects.

“Furthermore, the command calls on members of the public to at all times report suspicious and criminal activities to the nearest police station or make use of the command’s emergency line for prompt and decisive action against all forms,” the statement concluded.
