On October 25, 2007, The Supreme Court of Nigeria sacked Rivers State Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia from office, and replaced him with Rotimi Ameachi. The Supreme Court said it doesn’t support injustice
Ameachi won the PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election on 14th December 2006. However, on 2nd February 2007, PDP wrote to INEC intimating the commission that Ameachi’s name was forwarded to them in error and as such, they were substituting his name with Celestine Omehia.
On Thursday, November 15, 2007, the election petition tribunal annulled the election of Murtala Nyako of the PDP as governor of Adamawa state. Nyako was removed from office because the candidate of the opposition Action Congress (AC) late Ibrahim Bapatel, had been illegally disqualified from the race.
On May 24, 2019, Supreme Court voided all votes cast for the APC and sacked all its candidates who were declared winners in the February 23 and March 16 2019 general elections in Zamfara state. The Supreme Court said APC had no candidates in the elections, as it failed to conduct the primary elections in accordance with its own rules and as required by law.
Today’s Adamawa PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election that produced candidate Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has a major defect- someone was unfairly and blatantly denied the opportunity to participate in the primaries. Mohammed Jameel Abubakar-waziri has a valid case taking into consideration the three cases mentioned above.
Well, Fintiri is a man that for all his political journeys- things came as easy as ABC to him. Fintiri sensed that The 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election may not be easy for him, thus he went behind the rule to get his challenger illegally and unfairly disqualified.
I said -Fintiri is a man that for all his political journeys- things came as easy as ABC to him, because he ascends to positions of power with ease, effortlessly with the help of other people. Three men- Barrister Tapa Sirumtu, Former Governor Boni Haruna, and Former Governor Murtala Nyako were instrumental in laying the foundation for success in Fintiri’s political career.
Boni Haruna endorsed Fintiri as the candidate to represent Madagali State Constituency on the platform of then Action Congress (AC) in 2007. In fact, Paul Wankari name was replaced with that of Finitiri. Walin Mubi, Hamid Mahmood and Yusuf Danuma were instrumental in convincing Boni Haruna.
Equally, When Fintiri seek to be a state house of assembly member on the platform of the PDP, and it became difficult for him to have an easy ride, Former Governor Murtala Nyako moved the primaries from Madagali to Government House Yola, Fintiri got the ticket, got elected into the House and was made the speaker.
When there was a move by ‘Abuja’ to remove governor Nyako and his deputy Bala Ngilari, Joe Madaki was able to gather 43 stakeholders of the Adamawa PDP for endorsement, they all endorsed, except late Adamu Modibbo and Lawrence Ngbale- Modibbo was concern about the constitutionality of removing a governor and his deputy at the same time, while Ngbale concern was, it was strange, never have been done before. So, Joe Madaki was very instrumental in paving the way for Fintiri to be acting governor- though, a competent court of law later nullified it.
Atiku Abubakar bankrolled Fintiri to win the PDP governorship primaries in 2018 and subsequently won the election.
Today’s Fintiri’s victory at the Mahmud Ribadu square is a temporary one because there is a very important pre-election court case hanging on the legality or otherwise of the Gubernatorial Primary Election. Fintiri may have just won the gubernatorial primary election for Ambassador Jameel, while the Ambassador is home sipping his tea
