Former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina slumped on Tuesday evening while attempting to access his office premises and has been hospitalised in Abuja.

His Media Assistant, Emmanuel Ekwe disclosed this in a statement. Ekwe said the incident occurred following complications arising from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose balance and fall, resulting in his head hitting the staircase.

According to him, medical personnel present promptly administered first aid, after which the victim was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention.

The statement reads, “Dr. Maina is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation. “Following preliminary medical assessment, one of the attending doctors advised that arrangements be considered for an air ambulance medical evacuation should his condition not stabilise within a short period. The family appeals to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for privacy at this critical time.

“Further updates will be communicated as developments unfold.”

In November 2021, Maina was jailed for eight years by a Federal High Court on money-laundering charges involving N2.1 billion linked to pension funds.

He filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, which in May 2023 affirmed the lower court’s judgement. He was released from the Kuje Correctional Centre on February 25, 2025.
