The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Monday declared Dachung Pam Mwadkon of the African Democratic Party (ADP) as the winner of the Plateau North Senatorial District election, and Daniel Asama Ago, of the Labour Party as the winner of the Jos North – Bassa Federal Constituency. The electoral body had, at the ninth hour, announced the exclusion of Simon Mwadkwon of PDP from the election.
However in order to ensure that APC didn’t get the seat, the PDP had mobilised it’s supporters to vote for the ADP candidate for Plateau North and the Labour Party for Jos North/ Bassa Federal Constituency.
Declaring the results, the returning officer for the Plateau North Senatorial District, Professor Nestor Chagok, of the University of Jos, said Dachung Pam Mwadkon scored 122,442 to defeat his closest challenger, Shapi’u Yakub, who scored 53,980 votes. Also Prof. James Damen, the returning officer for the Bassa/Jos North Federal constituency, also declared that Daniel Asama Ago of the Labour Party scored 66,422, defeating the second challenger, Muhammed Alkali of the PRP, who scored 61,670 votes.
Breakdown of the results showed that ADP won in all five Local Government Areas which are Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos South, Jos East and Riyom, while NNPP won in Jos North.
The breakdown of the results as presented by INEC showed that Shafi’u Muhammad Yakubu of the NNPP became second with 53,980 votes, while Chris Giwa of the APC polled 39,132, and Gyang Zi of the LP got 33,243.
