A four-year-old boy, Muhammad Haruna, has regained freedom and reunited with family following a tactical operation by the Department of State Services (DSS), which tracked and apprehended the criminal element who kidnapped the minor in Kano.

Little Haruna was reportedly abducted four days ago after the suspect deceived his mother and whisked him away from his Danzaki Village in Gezawa Local Government Area, about 35 kilometres from Kano.

The suspect allegedly told Haruna’s mother under false pretences that he had been sent by the boy’s father to take him to a particular destination. The child was later declared missing when his father returned home in the evening without him.

In a telephone interview with The Guardian, the victim’s father, Haruna Hamza Aminu, explained how he reported the case of his kidnapped son and the subsequent demand for a N15 million ransom to the Kano Command of the DSS.

Aminu confirmed that his son was successfully rescued by DSS operatives and reunited with the family hale and hearty. He also shared a written undertaking he made after the release of his son at the DSS office.In the undertaking letter sighted by The Guardian, the father wrote:
“I, Haruna Hamza Aminu, the father of Muhammad Haruna, received my son who was rescued by the DSS on 12th February 2026 after being kidnapped. He is in good health. I highly commend the security agency for their resilience and hard work.”The suspected kidnapper, Aminu Muktar, 19, who is currently in DSS custody, reportedly confessed to committing the crime to raise money for personal needs, a reliable source revealed.

However, the victim’s father told journalists that he was later invited by the police on Friday and detained for several hours to give a fresh statement on how his son was kidnapped and rescued.

Speaking with journalists after his release from police command, Aminu disclosed that he was informed that another woman had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of his son.

“I have been with the police from 1:30 p.m. till 4:00 p.m., and they asked me to write a statement on how my son was kidnapped and rescued. The police told me that they have arrested a woman who was also part of those who kidnapped my son,” the father lamented.The spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, was not available to comment on why the victim’s father was invited for further investigation after the DSS had successfully rescued the four-year-old boy.
