Defence Headquarters Responds to Alleged Unlawful Detention of Seaman Abbas Haruna, Promises Fair Investigation

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has addressed a viral video clip alleging the wrongful detention of Naval rating, Seaman Abbas Haruna, who has reportedly been incarcerated for six years. In an official statement, the DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

In light of the allegations, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. The military assured the public that the court-martial process is thorough and adheres to established military protocols, guaranteeing fairness and equal treatment in all cases.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, urged the public to remain patient and avoid sharing unverified information as the investigation is ongoing. He further assured Nigerians that the investigation’s outcome will be made public, and that the Armed Forces is committed to a transparent and swift resolution.

The DHQ’s statement emphasized that the Armed Forces will continue to uphold its principles of fairness and justice while addressing this sensitive issue.
