Corruption Allegations Trail TCN’s Former Project General Manager

There are allegations of massive corruption, maladministration, and violations of work ethics perpetuated by the former General Manager of Project Coordination at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Joseph Ciroma Almajiri, who has already retired from service, but it’s alleged that he left so many unresolved corruption cases against him, according to some sources. It’s alleged that the massive malpractices were perpetuated with the connivance of then-SA Infrastructure in the office of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

One of the lingering cases, as alleged, is money collected for unattended training programs. For instance, some sources say the African Development Bank (AFDB) has written to the TCN requesting a refund of the monies it provided but that were not used for the purposes it was meant for.

Moreover, the sources allege that there were funds appropriated for the development and upgrades of the electricity distribution network system; the sources say that the funds were gotten from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the same SA in the office of the former VP. However, it was alleged that Chiroma didn’t use the funds appropriately.

Another scandal is the Lines Lot 1—NTEP-TL1—Construction of Mando—Rimin Zakara 330kV Double Circuit QUAD Conductor Transmission Line Project. Transrail Lighting Limited an Indian firm is the company leading in the evaluation and clearly the most competent to handle the project, but it was alleged that Ciroma single-handedly denied them the project because they couldn’t meet his kickback demands, thus the project was awarded to a Chinese company JV of Xian Electric Engineering/Sumec Complete Equipment Engineering Company Limited, who were alleged to have played along.

Some workers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have dragged the company’s general manager and project coordinator, Engr. Joseph Almajiri, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over corruption allegations and abuse of power against him.

Recall that some TCN workers have written a petition requesting the EFCC to look at the earlier petitions they wrote against Al-majiri on July 27th, 2022, and October 21st, 2022, which were submitted to the former Minister of Power.

Some sources say Mr. Almajiri is trying to enjoy what he didn’t sow and is now plotting to be made the Managing Director of the TCN. It was alleged that he is committing a huge amount of resources to achieve his plot, but the biggest obstacle against him is that he actively sponsored the Labour Party in Kaduna South in the February 2023 Presidential Elections and the many corruption allegations against him, including his dual citizenship and that of his family, the sources alleged.
