The governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the umbrella of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), have declared full support for the Federal Government’s (FG) ongoing reengineering of the nation’s security architecture, describing it as a necessary step toward addressing Nigeria’s rising insecurity. In a communiqué issued after a two-day meeting at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the governors also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging unwavering support for his Renewed Hope Agenda and his 2027 re-election bid.
The crucial meeting, chaired by PGF chairman and governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was hosted by Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Some states, including Kaduna and Katsina, were represented by their deputy governors.
Other dignitaries present included Lagos deputy governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Lagos SSG Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, GAC chairman Tajudeen Olusi, party stalwarts, and members of the State Executive Council (SEC).
Reading the communiqué, Uzodimma said the forum reviewed political, economic, and social developments in the country and reaffirmed that all government reforms must ultimately improve the daily lives of Nigerians. On security, the PGF noted improved synergy among federal, state, and local security agencies, and praised the sacrifices of security operatives and community volunteers.
They applauded President Tinubu’s ongoing restructuring of the national security architecture and resolved to strengthen local security systems, intelligence gathering, conflict-prevention efforts, and support for victims of violence.
The forum also stressed the importance of unity, inter-faith harmony, and inter-ethnic understanding, urging leaders and influencers to promote peace and discourage hate speech.
Strengthening local governance
Reiterating the importance of grassroots governance, the governors pledged to deepen reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery in local governments.
They agreed to broaden citizen engagement platforms—including town halls and consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, labour and professional bodies, youth and women’s groups—to build trust and enhance policy implementation.
Loyalty to APC
The forum restated its loyalty to the APC and commended the party’s leadership for efforts to strengthen internal democracy and reconciliation. The PGF reaffirms full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Progressive governors see themselves as trustees of the people’s mandate and remain committed to delivering tangible social and economic outcomes across the federation,” Uzodimma said.
