Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kenny Okolugbo has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun over alleged cyber attacks and coordinated defamation campaign against him by television presenter, Rufai Oseni and two other popular social media influencers. In a petition dated June 16, 2025, Okolugbo alleged that his verified X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and used to publish a false statement, which was subsequently embellished and circulated by Oseni Rufai (@ruffydfire), and two influencers — Tunde Ednut and US-based Adeola Fayehun (@adeolafayehun).
“These allegations are not only untrue but impossible, based on verified evidence,” Okolugbo wrote.
Okolugbo further alleged that the influencers added fabricated details, including phone cloning, voice manipulation, and a supposed meeting in London, to amplify the alleged false narrative.
“Most disturbing is that the fabricated post was simultaneously circulated and embellished by these influencers, using identical language and coordinated timing, pointing to a syndicated disinformation campaign,” Okolugbo said in his petition.
He alleged the campaign was designed to reinforce earlier allegations made by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senator representing Kogi Central, and damage his reputation.
Okolugbo called on the police to investigate the hacking of his account and prosecute those responsible for cyber-defamation and impersonation under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
He also asked for the preservation of digital evidence from social media platforms and third-party service providers to aid forensic investigations.
To back his petition, Okolugbo attached his travel documents, proving that he had not been to London in 2025 and that his last visit to the UK was in November 2024.
Okolugbo explained that the controversy over seats in the Senate chamber on March 6 which pitted Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio, was a result of lingering resentment stemming from her removal as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
“The fact of the matter is that her seat was removed, and there was already bottled-up anger because she was removed from the Local Content Committee,” Okolugbo said.
