Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, have commissioned a 62-bed ultra-modern medical centre in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area. The facility, established through the philanthropy of Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea, is expected to improve access to medical services for residents of Ewatto and neighbouring communities.
The medical centre serves as an annex of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), providing an institutional link to an established specialist hospital. The facility is equipped with medical infrastructure designed to support a range of healthcare needs, including inpatient care, maternity services, emergency treatment and diagnostic investigations.
Speaking at the commissioning, Okpebholo commended Ikpea for investing in healthcare and described the project as an example of how private philanthropy can complement government efforts. He said partnerships with individuals and organisations willing to invest in public welfare could help expand access to essential services across Edo State.
The governor congratulated the people of Ewatto on the new facility and urged the community and healthcare professionals to protect and maintain it. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, while the centre’s long-term impact will depend on effective management, adequate staffing and the consistent provision of medical services.
