Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged northern leaders and residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the region has benefited from the administration and stands to gain more from a second term. He made the remarks on Monday, October 12, 2026, while receiving a delegation from Arewa for Asiwaju at the State House in Abuja.

Shettima said the North had benefited from federal appointments, projects and programmes under Tinubu’s government. He cited the Bank of Agriculture’s reported disbursement of ₦450 billion to 700,000 smallholder farmers nationwide, claiming that about 70 per cent of the beneficiaries were from northern Nigeria.

The Vice-President called on leaders across the region to unite and mobilise support at the grassroots, including in wards, communities and local government areas. He also expressed confidence that the administration would continue implementing projects and programmes aimed at development across the country.

Former Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru, the group’s Director-General, said Arewa for Asiwaju would engage religious leaders and other prominent Nigerians to promote the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, who chairs the group’s Board of Trustees, also said the organisation was coordinating with northern governors and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 election.
