The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area I Command, has intercepted 30 wraps of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, from a female passenger arriving in Nigeria from South Africa. The substance was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on October 7, 2026, as part of efforts to curb drug smuggling.
The interception was disclosed in a statement issued on October 8 by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Barilule Aanee, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller. The seized substance was transferred to the NDLEA for further action.
Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, said tackling illicit drugs was essential to protecting public health and safety, particularly among young people. She warned that substances such as Canadian Loud could affect mental health, judgment and productivity, with consequences for families and communities.
The NDLEA’s Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Nathaniel Negedu, commended Customs for the interception and stressed the importance of cooperation between both agencies in tackling drug trafficking. Atuluku also praised the officers involved and pledged that the command would sustain efforts to prevent illicit substances from entering Nigerian communities.
