Lagos State House of Assembly member and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, kneeling and prostrating before him as he sought forgiveness and reconciliation after a political dispute within the Lagos APC.
Elliot made the fresh apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders. The Surulere Constituency I lawmaker said he had no excuse for his actions, admitted he might have been misguided and pledged to renew his loyalty to the party leadership.
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry,” Elliot said, explaining that prostrating was part of the way he was showing respect. Gbajabiamila subsequently asked him to get up.
The reconciliation follows the APC primary for the Surulere Constituency I seat, during which Elliot withdrew from the exercise, alleging intimidation and political pressure. He later rejected the outcome and indicated that he would challenge the process, but ultimately lost the ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who secured 11,385 votes against Elliot’s 270.
The latest apology is not Elliot’s first attempt to mend relations with Gbajabiamila. He had previously apologised during a TVC interview, describing Gbajabiamila as his political mentor and saying he remained committed to party unity.
