According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday 10 September 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will not abandon its platform ahead of the 2027 general election, despite ongoing efforts by opposition groups to forge a broader political coalition.
The party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, made this known on Wednesday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, was reacting to the activities of the G-100, a group working to strengthen cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He said the NDC supports the idea of opposition collaboration but would contest the election as the NDC.
According to him, the party is prepared to work with other political parties and candidates who share its objective, while maintaining that its presidential ticket remains the most attractive option.
“We are going to the election as NDC; If other parties and candidates support us, as we think they should, well and good, but we are working to win the election,” Dickson said.
He also appealed to opposition parties to consider presenting a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election, stressing that greater unity could strengthen the opposition’s chances.
Dickson acknowledged the efforts of those behind the G-100, describing them as “great Nigerians doing a great job.”
He said the NDC was aware of the coalition’s activities and agreed with its broad objective of fostering cooperation among opposition forces.
“The NDC, in principle, endorses what they are doing, and we have made it clear that the general commitments are good and our position is very clear,” he stated.
However, Dickson insisted that the NDC has what he described as “the most exciting,” “most vibrant,” “appealing” and “balanced” ticket, which he said resonates with Nigerians at home and abroad.
He further disclosed that the party would continue engaging other political groups, noting that the NDC’s presidential candidate recently attended a campaign rally organised by the Allied Peoples Movement.
Dickson said such engagements reflected the NDC’s readiness to cooperate with other groups while pursuing its own political ambitions in 2027.
