The Kaduna State Muslim-Christian Network for Good Governance has expressed support for the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, following comments he made during a recent interview on Channels Television concerning the administration of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The group, which describes itself as a political pressure organisation comprising Muslims and Christians committed to unity, peaceful coexistence and development, condemned what it described as attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Defence Minister over his remarks.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Tahir Tanko, and Secretary, Steven Kefas, among others, the network accused critics of Musa of engaging in what it described as “selective amnesia” and ethno-religious rhetoric in their reactions to his assessment of the El-Rufai administration.
The group said residents of Kaduna State were “living witnesses” to what it characterised as divisive policies and actions during El-Rufai’s tenure between 2015 and 2023.
It alleged that the former administration took controversial actions against traditional rulers and workers, handled insecurity poorly, demolished markets and homes without adequate compensation, and arrested or detained some Christian and Muslim leaders who criticised government policies.
The network also alleged that El-Rufai had, on several occasions, used religion as a political tool, particularly during election periods.
According to the group, Musa’s comments reflected the experiences of many residents during the former governor’s tenure.
The network challenged those who disagreed with the Defence Minister to provide facts to counter his claims rather than resort to ethnic or religious arguments.
It also rejected interpretations that Musa’s remarks were targeted only at Southern Kaduna, arguing that his reference to “our people” should be understood as referring to Kaduna residents who, according to the group, were affected by policies, actions or alleged failures of the former administration.
The organisation consequently condemned what it described as attempts to misrepresent the Minister’s comments and declared its “total support” for Musa.
The group further commended the Defence Minister for raising issues it said had been discussed across Kaduna State and beyond, while expressing confidence in his efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security.
It called on citizens of Kaduna State to support the present state government’s efforts to promote unity, inclusiveness and fairness in governance.
The statement was also signed by Yakubu Adamu, Joyce Michael, Adamu Abdullahi, Kevin Bahago and Zariyi Yusuf.
