Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.
In a statement by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, the appointment follows the recommendation of the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.
It adds, Governor Umar Namadi congratulated the new Emir and wished him successful service to the Gumel Emirate and the nation.
Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani succeeds his father, the late Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday, September third, 2026, after 46 years on the throne.
Until his appointment, the new Emir was the Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA
