The National Population Commission has announced the death of its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf Wushishi.
In a statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Adelayo Olurode, the Commission says Dr. Wushishi passed away in Abuja on Friday, 28 August 2026, after a brief illness. Aged 66.
Dr. Wushishi, a former Secretary of the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, officially assumed office as Chairman of the National Population Commission on 2 December 2025.
He succeeded Nasir Isa Kwarra, whose tenure as Chairman of the Commission came to an end in December 2025.
Dr. Wushishi is expected to be buried on Saturday, 29 August 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites
