The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old Lagos-based businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, after allegedly discovering 1.55kg of cocaine concealed inside the walls and railings of his luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The suspect, a marble dealer, was arrested on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the departure hall of Terminal II while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to New Delhi, India. NDLEA operatives reportedly discovered the cocaine during a search of his check-in luggage.
According to NDLEA, Onyebuchi allegedly confessed that he sold his marble business and other assets to raise ₦23 million to purchase the cocaine, which he intended to sell in India for up to ₦100 million.
The agency said the suspect remains in custody and is expected to face prosecution.
In separate operations in Lagos, NDLEA also reported seizing 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup, valued at more than ₦2.6 billion, and 324kg of Colorado cannabis, estimated at ₦972 million.
