In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), spoke about the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election and the possibility of parties working together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Baba-Ahmed said the PRP was taking the political contest seriously and recognized that defeating the ruling party would require cooperation among opposition parties and stakeholders.

Speaking about the party’s preparations, he stated, “We are taking the issue very seriously, and we are confident that we can defeat the APC.” He explained that no single opposition party should assume that it could defeat the ruling party without building wider cooperation.

According to Baba-Ahmed, opposition parties need to recognize the importance of collaboration and develop a strategy capable of presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians. He said the PRP was already engaging with other groups and parties interested in strengthening the opposition ahead of the election.

The PRP chairman noted that the ruling party has significant political and financial advantages, making the task of defeating it challenging. However, he maintained that opposition parties could overcome those advantages if they worked together and focused on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

He also emphasized the importance of a free and fair electoral process, expressing concern about developments that could undermine public confidence in the 2027 election. He said the judiciary, electoral institutions and political actors all have important roles to play in ensuring that Nigerians are allowed to freely choose their leaders.

Baba-Ahmed maintained that the opposition should concentrate on building a strong coalition rather than allowing differences among parties to weaken their collective effort.

He concluded that the PRP would continue working with other opposition stakeholders, stressing that cooperation, seriousness and a clear political strategy could give Nigerians a stronger alternative in 2027.
