The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted the first batch of 86 Nigerian troops to Guinea-Bissau for deployment under the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and security.
The contingent, made up of 12 officers and 74 soldiers, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aboard a NAF C-130 aircraft. The remaining personnel are expected to be deployed in a subsequent airlift.
Before their departure, the troops were formally addressed at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Force Operations Base in Abuja, where they were urged to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity while representing Nigeria on the international mission.
The deployment highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic airlift capability and Nigeria’s continued leadership in ECOWAS peacekeeping operations, aimed at promoting stability, strengthening regional cooperation, and supporting peace across west Africa.
