Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria’s housing sector over the increasing cost of rent across the country.

Adeyanju, in a letter addressed to the President, expressed concern that rising rental prices have made housing unaffordable for many Nigerians, particularly low-income earners and young people struggling to secure accommodation.

He urged the government to take urgent steps to address the housing crisis, including policies that would reduce pressure on renters and improve access to affordable housing.

The call comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, with many residents reporting difficulties in meeting increasing accommodation expenses.
