The parents of a two-year-old boy who was killed during an alleged stray-bullet incident involving operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are demanding compensation, three years after the tragedy.

The incident occurred on July 13, 2023, during an NDLEA operation along Okpanam Road in Asaba, Delta State. The couple’s son, Onose Ivan Omhonria, was fatally struck by a bullet, while his younger brother, Eromonsele, who is now four years old, sustained a gunshot injury to the eye and has reportedly lost sight in the affected eye.

Speaking on the family’s ordeal, the children’s father said they have continued to bear the emotional and financial burden of the incident, with the surviving child still requiring medical care.

The family is urging the Federal Government and the NDLEA to implement the compensation earlier recommended by the Senate and provide the support needed for the child’s treatment.

The incident has continued to spark calls for accountability and justice, as the family awaits action from the relevant authorities.
