Vice President Kashim Shettima has launched the $500 million Niger Delta Agricultural Investment Fund at the Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Summit, describing agriculture as the foundation of Nigeria’s long-term economic growth and stability.

The summit, jointly convened by the Office of the Vice President and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), brought together government officials, development partners, investors and key stakeholders to explore strategies for transforming agriculture in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking at the event, Shettima said the launch of the investment fund marks a significant step toward unlocking the region’s agricultural potential, creating jobs, attracting investment and improving food production.

He noted that Nigeria’s economy was built on agriculture before the discovery of oil, stressing that the country must return to investing in the sector to achieve sustainable development and reduce dependence on crude oil revenues.

The Vice President also said no nation can achieve lasting prosperity without food security, describing agriculture as not only the foundation of civilisation but also a key pillar of political stability and national development.

The $500 million fund is expected to support agricultural projects, boost productivity, strengthen value chains and encourage private sector investment across the Niger Delta.
