The Minister of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has paid tribute to the Nigerian Army as it marked its 163rd anniversary, describing the force as one of the enduring pillars of Nigeria’s sovereignty, stability and national pride.
In a message commemorating the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), General Musa praised the Army’s courage and professionalism in defending the country’s territorial integrity and tackling insurgency, terrorism, banditry and other security threats. He also commended its contributions to regional and international peacekeeping missions, saying Nigerian troops have continued to uphold the nation’s reputation on the global stage.
The minister noted that this year’s theme, “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People,” reflects the Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerians and preserving national unity. He applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the Armed Forces and congratulated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on the successful hosting of NADCEL 2026.
General Musa also honoured fallen heroes and expressed appreciation to serving personnel, veterans and their families for their sacrifices, patriotism and dedication to the nation.
