The Ekiti State Police Command has rescued worshippers who were abducted during a deadly attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) crusade in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, bringing an end to more than two months of captivity for the victims.

The worshippers were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when armed attackers invaded the church programme, killing some participants and whisking others away into the forest. The incident sparked widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over insecurity in the state.

According to the police, the victims were rescued through a sustained intelligence-led operation involving operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Amotekun Corps, and local hunters. The survivors are currently receiving medical attention following their rescue.

Authorities, however, confirmed that one of the abducted worshippers died while in captivity, casting a shadow over the successful rescue operation. Security agencies said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The Ekiti State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
