Human rights activist and Take-It-Back Movement leader, Omoyele Sowore, has joined members of the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in a march demanding safer schools for teachers, students and parents.
Sowore said no child should be afraid to go to school, and no teacher should have to risk their life while educating the next generation.
He condemned the growing insecurity, kidnappings and attacks on educational institutions, stressing that the situation must be confronted with urgency and seriousness.
According to him, the march was a show of solidarity with educators, students and parents across Nigeria who are demanding safe learning environments.
He also called for the immediate rescue of all abducted children and school personnel still in captivity.
Sowore said government must take concrete steps to secure every school in the country, adding that education cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear.
“Safe schools are a right, not a privilege,” he said.
