Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for the Republic of Benin to attend the inauguration ceremony of the country’s newly elected president.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Shettima is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the high-profile event expected to attract several African leaders, diplomats, and government officials.
The presidential inauguration ceremony forms part of democratic transition activities in Benin Republic following the country’s recent elections.
Nigeria and Benin Republic maintain long-standing diplomatic, economic, and security ties, with both countries continuing to cooperate on regional integration, trade, border security, and ECOWAS-related matters.
The vice president’s visit is also expected to reinforce bilateral relations between Nigeria and Benin Republic as discussions on regional stability and economic cooperation continue across West Africa.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after participating in the inauguration activities and related diplomatic engagements.
